If you are also waiting for an affordable electric car that can compete with options like the Tiago EV and MG Comet?

Then the upcoming 2026 Renault Kwid EV from Renault can prove to be a game-changer for you.

So let's know every detail about this upcoming EV that will excite you.

Based on the spy shots, the overall design of the 2026 Renault Kwid EV looks quite similar to the Dacia Spring EV that is already available in the global markets.

Both these models are badge-engineered, meaning the design and structure will be the same, but the name and localisation will be adjusted according to India.

The latest test mule was spotted with a red temporary registration plate from Tamil Nadu – the same place where Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd has its manufacturing facility.

Windshield washer, wiper, and parking sensors are visible in the rear section. The camouflage is so intense that it even covers the windows! The front design will be plain, but LED DRLs and SUV-like side body cladding will enhance its street presence.

If we compare it with the global Dacia Spring EV, the 2026 Renault Kwid EV could also get a 26.8 kWh battery pack that can offer a claimed range of around 220 km on a single full charge.

Renault is planning to localise this vehicle for India to maintain cost-effectiveness. This localisation will not only be in the battery components but could also be in the electronic systems.

Being a budget EV, this car does not offer alloy wheels – wheel covers have been provided. Side turn indicators are integrated on the ORVMs, suggesting that the mirrors could be electrically adjustable. Door handles are still pull-up type, indicating their low-cost segment positioning.

Performance: Practical Yet Electric

Detailed motor specifications have not been disclosed yet, but going by the Dacia Spring base, this 2026 Kwid EV could be a pretty practical EV for city rides and short commutes.

With the electric drivetrain, expected acceleration is decent, and smooth, low-end torque makes it perfect for urban roads.

The antenna is still a conventional type, which is again an indicator of cost-cutting. But all these features seem justified considering the price point.

When the 2026 Renault Kwid EV is launched, it will compete directly with the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, and Citroen eC3.

The speculated starting price could be around ₹7 lakh ex-showroom, making it one of the most affordable electric cars in India. This price tag could be quite attractive for first-time EV buyers.
