Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Spied in Ladakh – Launch Getting Closer?

Hey friends, Royal Enfield is continuously increasing its steps in the world of electric mobility, whose first glimpse we got to see at the 2023 EICMA Show, Milan (Italy).

Here, the brand showcased a crude electric off-roader prototype, which was named HIM-E – i.e., Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric.

After this, at the 2024 EICMA Show, Royal Enfield also showcased two new concept bikes of its Flying Flea series – FF.C6 and FF.S6.

Now it seems that Royal Enfield has developed a production-ready version of its HIM-E concept, which can be officially called Himalayan Electric.

These bikes have been spotted outside a hotel in Ladakh, where Royal Enfield's top management was testing them. Looking at these bikes, it seems that they are close to the production spec.

The design of the Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric follows the “function over form” approach. Like the HIM-E concept, it also gets a single-piece seat that mimics the structure of the fuel tank.

The front beak is now missing, but a tall windscreen has been given for better wind deflection. The lighting setup is all-LED, which includes projector headlamps and tail-lights integrated with turn indicators.

Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Frame & Build.

The new Himalayan Electric makes extensive use of aluminium. Some exposed welds of the custom aluminium swingarm are still visible, but the overall finish is much improved over the HIM-E.

The mainframe and subframe are also custom aluminium units, not the tubular trellis type. The battery and motor are both integrated as stressed members of the chassis. Aluminium luggage mounts have been given at the front, like the Himalayan 411 and 450.

Along with aluminium heel plates, rugged off-road pegs will also be available. The battery casing is also made of aluminium, with unique patterns – possibly a topographical representation of the Himalayan terrain.

Components: Premium Hardware All Around.

When it comes to hardware components, the Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric makes no compromises. It rides on spoked type SM Pro Platinum enduro wheels, which are made from billet aluminium.

These wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Battlax Adventurecross knobby tyres, which are perfect for off-roading.

The braking setup is also premium – petal discs are used on both the front and rear ends, with Nissin callipers.

Brake fluid reservoirs are mounted on the handlebars. In the handlebar setup, only one braced handlebar with a Renthal brace pad was spotted in the test unit.

Suspension & Dashboard: Fully Adjustable and Feature-Rich.

The suspension system is also top-tier. Up front, the company has provided fully adjustable USD telescopic forks, and at the rear, a fully adjustable Ohlins mono-shock.

Talking about the dashboard, the test mules saw a 7-inch ECUMASTER digital dashboard, which was fitted in a tower-style mount, just like rally bikes. This setup seems ideal for high-speed off-roading.

Performance Expectations: Can It Match the Himalayan 450?

The performance figures of the Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric have not been officially revealed yet. But from what we can gather from the test mules, its performance could be at or close to the Himalayan 450, which would be quite impressive.

The torque advantage of the electric drivetrain will give it an edge in off-roading, but there could be scope for improvement in the touring aspect.

Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Launch Date in India: When Is It Coming?

Now let’s know when it will arrive. No official launch date has been confirmed by the company yet. But looking at the near-production design and premium fit-finish of the units spotted in Ladakh, it can be said that the launch is not too far away. Now it remains to be seen how many premium features we get to see in the final production model.
